Tips for getting a great blowout!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on January 2, 2012 by ronnyking

Follow these tips and you’ll get that blowout that makes you look straight from the salon.

  • Start with freshly shampooed hair, less oily means longevity of the blowout
  • Apply the correct products. Have fine hair? Mousse is probably all you need. Have thick or curly hair? Straightening serums or creams can reduce the frizz by sealing the cuticle.
  • Does the look you’re going for match the haircut? If your hair is one length it would probably look the best sleek an straight. If your hair is layered then you can have more bounce and curl.
  • Have a fringe (bangs)? Dry them first.
  • Remember to blow dry from the scalp to the ends.  Especially if you flip upside down to dry it, the dryer should be pointing towards the floor.
  • Using a round brush and not getting enough curl or volume? Try  use a smaller brush. I find most clients using too large of a brush.
  • The more bristles a brush has, placed close together, will result in smoother hair. Only drawback is longer drying time. Less bristle, placed further apart (think vent brush), will result in volume, less smoothness but a quicker drying time.
  • Check some of my other posts for more specific tips for your hair type
  • Here are some of my favorite brushes;

The classic Denman, perfect for bobs and short hair

I use Olivia Garden Ceramic Ionic round brushes. I love the way they glide through the hair

And last but not least, my favorite brush ever, the Mason Pearson. One of the most versatile brushes you’ll ever use, totally worth the price

Hope this helps, feel free to ask any questions or for any product recommendations.

Waves for the Holidays

Wavy hair is definitely in this holiday season, and it’s easier than you think!

• First you need to prep your damp hair. If your hair is fine I recommend mousse, preferably the Universal Mattering Mousse from Davines. Don’t be afraid of mousse, most of the problems people have are from applying incorrectly. Start by applying the mousse at the scalp first, then proceed to the ends, making sure to comb it through. For medium to coarse hair I would recommend Oi/Oil from Davines, it will give you body and nix the frizz.

• Now blow dry your hair. Make sure to blow it dry from scalp to ends, concentrating on the scalp first with your hands, then using a round brush for volume.

• Time to break out the curling iron. Wrap 2-inch-wide sections around a medium barrel curling iron. Holding it horizontally, coil the hair from the top down to over-curly ends.

• Now gently brush your hair with a paddle brush an run your fingers through to break them up.

• Spray your hair with hairspray, I prefer the Crystal Fixative from Davines, it gives great hold and lots of shine

You’re done, that wasn’t so hard was it?
