Tips for getting a great blowout!
Follow these tips and you’ll get that blowout that makes you look straight from the salon.
- Start with freshly shampooed hair, less oily means longevity of the blowout
- Apply the correct products. Have fine hair? Mousse is probably all you need. Have thick or curly hair? Straightening serums or creams can reduce the frizz by sealing the cuticle.
- Does the look you’re going for match the haircut? If your hair is one length it would probably look the best sleek an straight. If your hair is layered then you can have more bounce and curl.
- Have a fringe (bangs)? Dry them first.
- Remember to blow dry from the scalp to the ends. Especially if you flip upside down to dry it, the dryer should be pointing towards the floor.
- Using a round brush and not getting enough curl or volume? Try use a smaller brush. I find most clients using too large of a brush.
- The more bristles a brush has, placed close together, will result in smoother hair. Only drawback is longer drying time. Less bristle, placed further apart (think vent brush), will result in volume, less smoothness but a quicker drying time.
- Check some of my other posts for more specific tips for your hair type
- Here are some of my favorite brushes;
The classic Denman, perfect for bobs and short hair
I love Olivia Garden round brushes
Hope this helps, feel free to ask any questions or for any product recommendations.

Waves for the Holidays
Wavy hair is definitely in this holiday season, and it’s easier than you think!
• First you need to prep your damp hair. If your hair is fine I recommend mousse, preferably the Universal Mattering Mousse from Davines. Don’t be afraid of mousse, most of the problems people have are from applying incorrectly. Start by applying the mousse at the scalp first, then proceed to the ends, making sure to comb it through. For medium to coarse hair I would recommend Oi/Oil from Davines, it will give you body and nix the frizz.
• Now blow dry your hair. Make sure to blow it dry from scalp to ends, concentrating on the scalp first with your hands, then using a round brush for volume.
• Time to break out the curling iron. Wrap 2-inch-wide sections around a medium barrel curling iron. Holding it horizontally, coil the hair from the top down to over-curly ends.
• Now gently brush your hair with a paddle brush an run your fingers through to break them up.
• Spray your hair with hairspray, I prefer the Crystal Fixative from Davines, it gives great hold and lots of shine
You’re done, that wasn’t so hard was it?

New treatment helps cancer patients keep their hair
A new Japanese study found that cooling the head of patients during chemotherapy sessions resulted in more than 82% of the patients retaining the majority of their hair. The study was on 255 women with breast cancer, wearing a DigniCap device. The coldness of the DigniCap reduces the the blood flow to the follicles which minimizes their absorption of the toxic chemicals. A study here in US is currently under way to test its effectiveness.

Need More Volume?
Clients often ask what they can do to get more volume in their hair. Here’s some tips.
1, Wash you’re hair with a volumizing shampoo or a shampoo long or fine hair ( I suggest MELU from DAVINES) and apply a light conditioner to the ends only.
2, Rinse an blot your hair with a towel. I’ve noticed clients apply their products to hair that is much to wet, which will dilute the product. Apply mousse (I like the Creative Moulding Foam from DAVINES) at the crown, near the scalp an then distribute with a comb through the ends.
3, Now with your dryer on high, really lift that hair off the scalp, flip upside down if you’d like.
4, When your hair is almost dry, section your hair into manageable portions an blow dry with a round brush, lifting each section straight out from the head.
5, For added volume use hot rollers. Place the roller 2 inches from your scalp (not the ends) then roll to the scalp, leaving the rest loose. You’ll get volume but without curl.
6, Leave them in for 10 minutes. Then flip your head over an ruffle your hair with you hands. At this point you can add something for shine, or on more humid days add a little hairspray and you’re done.
